The rain in Lille, France, was relentless, a constant cold grey presence that soaked the winter streets and weighed down the sky. I positioned myself with my back to a shop window, steadying myself and the camera. The world and the rain passed through my viewfinder; faces, umbrellas, footsteps, all blurred and transient. But the tree remained, unwavering and constant, staring back at me.  Time moved around it,  I just had to wait….wait for that moment when the right interaction took place, and the story of the day would reveal itself to me.
