It’s May 2020 in Whitstable, Kent, and the world has come to a standstill, caught in the strange embrace of Lockdown. The 260 parking bays, once fiercely contested spaces, now lay empty, void of the usual hum of engines and hurried footsteps. The air thick with the anticipation of a storm, the horizon dark with a threat yet to be unleashed. In the midst of this stark emptiness I noticed a single figure moving with purpose. A solitary young woman throws a ball across the wide expanse. Her eager dog surged forward, cutting through the ridged geometry of white lines, a flash of life in an otherwise frozen world. In that moment, the photograph captures a fleeting act of freedom - a ball tossed in the air - a small yet defiant gesture against the stillness that had gripped the world.
