For quite some time, I had envisioned a photograph of Herne Bay Pier, its two sections standing stark against the sky in a striking black-and-white silhouette. The shot had lived in my mind, waiting for the right conditions: a low tide, the soft glow of a low setting sun, and a clear, bright cloudless sky. One balmy June evening, everything seemed to aligned. So I  ventured out, my feet sinking deep into the mud of the Thames Estuary, until I found the perfect point of view to capture the image I had long imagined.
