The human-made structures, built and then abandoned are now somewhat inconsequential. The earth will slowly reclaim what was once forcefully seized, as nature does when the hand of humanity retreats. Here I was wandering among the remains of the Cornish Mines when my attention was drawn to other indication of what human hands had also left behind. From the ancient handprints on cave walls to the spray-painted tags of modern urban streets, the inherited drive to announce: "I was here". The primal human urge, one that has echoed through time. The photograph now becoming a imprint of our layered legacy; acts of immortality, even if temporary, a desperate attempt to hold onto time in a single moment.
