FOLLY

The Atlantic roared as I walked the shoreline of the Outer Banks in North Carolina, its waves relentlessly reshaping the coast as they have for millennia. Along the water’s edge, a house came into view, its seaside charm intact, yet its position impossible to ignore. Set only yards from the advancing tide, it felt like an act of optimism bordering on defiance, a temporary hold against an ever-growing mass of water. The scene suggested a stand-off between human intent and natural force, one where the outcome was already written, with only time left to determine when. It was within that uneasy balance that I framed the photograph.
