DUNE

Late light falls across the dunes of the Outer Banks in North Carolina, shaping the sand into long ridges and deep shadow. Rendered in black and white, colour recedes, allowing tone and form to invite the imagination to fill what is absent. My own silhouette is held within the frame, cast as a shadow at the moment the photograph is made. It gives scale to the dunes, but more than that, it marks presence. Without it, the image would not exist in this way. Shadow, land, and light align briefly, fixing the instant when observation becomes photograph.
