NORMANDY

I walked alone along the remains of Utah Beach in light rain, the atmosphere heavy and close. Though I was out in the open, the space felt enclosed, as if I were moving through private rooms, not entirely invited. The light was flat, yet it did not erase contrast. Blacks held deep and dense, while highlights resisted becoming white, settling instead into a narrow band of greys. The tonal range shaped the mood quietly. Nothing here asked for attention or disturbance. It became a place of remembrance, not solemn, but reflective, marked by a sense of wonder at how peacefully the land had returned to itself.
