MIGRATION

Without the four figures moving through the frame, this photograph would have been little more than a study in extreme light, technically demanding, perhaps well made, but emotionally incomplete.

They appeared suddenly, crossing the space at speed. One moment present, the next already gone. There was no time to consider who they were, where they were heading, or what lay behind them. I recognised the moment and released the shutter.

Only later, back at home, did the image begin to change. The place receded and the figures came forward. A narrative formed, not one I had intended, but one that arrived quietly over time.

It became less about where this was taken, and more about those passing through it. The rest remains open.
