FROM THE STUDIO
Photography rarely begins and ends with the finished image.
Behind a photograph there may be a story, an unexpected encounter, a journey, an idea,
or simply a moment that made it worth stopping to look.
FROM THE STUDIO
brings together some of those stories, alongside occasional glimpses into the making,
thinking and experiences behind the photography.

THE VISITOR / 10 BILLION MILES LATER
The same place. A different story

A subject doesn't necessarily offer just one photograph.
I came across this strange structure and photographed it from two quite different points of view.
For THE VISITOR, I moved in close and low, deliberately taking
the image darker than the reality in front of me. Then there is
that small face looking through the window. Once noticed, it changes the photograph completely.
But I wasn't finished with it.
Moving further away changed both the viewpoint and the story. This time I gave the photograph a much colder treatment. The same weathered structure began to look less like something abandoned and more like something that had finally arrived.
10 BILLION MILES LATER.
Nothing was constructed for either photograph.
The subject was exactly as I found it.
What changed was the way I chose to photograph it.
Same place. Same subject. Two different stories.
