MONUMENTAL

I’ve photographed the Cuillin Mountains of Skye many times, from many different viewpoints. This image stayed with me because of how the moment unfolded.

From the glistening loch below to the highest peaks above, light moved constantly between cloud and land — shifting colour, altering mood, and recalibrating scale. Fixed in one place, I watched as the world around me remained in motion: shadows sliding across the mountains, colour rising and falling in quiet waves.

There was nothing to do but simply observe. To feel my momentary reduction in size as the layers revealed themselves, one after another, telling their story at their own pace.
