MUDSTONE
This is one of the many mudstone koppies of the Great Karoo, remnants of an ancient oceanic world, formed from mud, sandstone and minute quartz crystals. In certain light they seem to sparkle within the storm-darkened landscape.
Once these koppies were abundant. Now many are eroding rapidly under the persistent Karoo winds, their forms slowly wearing away. In time, many will disappear altogether, leaving only the memory of their presence in the landscape.
